Machost’s Action Research Plan for Administrative Leadership
GOAL :
What actions
can be done by both parents and teachers to reduce the amount of time a student
requires ESL services?
How can we as
educators prevent a lifelong ESL student?
How can we
determine the difference between a language learning deficiency and a potential
learning disability?

Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed viewing your ARP as it has some similar aspects in comparison to mine dealing with ESL students. Your topic is highly beneficial because we as educators need to work a little harder on getting these students off of ESL services as soon as possible in order to be successful on state tested exams. My question for you is: Are you offering the parents specific strategies for them to test at home? Also, when you conduct your literature reviews, are you including findings from internet resources, journals, and articles? I did not see those items stated in the needed resources section so I was just curious to know if you thought about adding those things. Just a few thoughts to consider if you are looking to revise your plan at all. I look forward to following your research... best of luck!
This looks great! I, too, and focusing on ESL students for my ARP. This is very important. I like that you will be meeting with parents in this process, they are an important piece of the puzzle. I can't wait to see it when it's all finished!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you are only focusing on 20 people. It's also nice to see the parent interaction as well since they know the students better than anyone. I think his plan looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great plan and I like that you are targeting a small group of students to determine results. I have found while teaching at the high school level that many of our students are only exposed to their native language at home. Maybe by providing resources for the parents to learn English as well (adult learning groups at a community center or community college or even a business that's willing to donate some materials) this would assist the parents in understanding how difficult it is for the child and create some additional help for your project. All the best to you in your Action Research!
